September 22nd.... Chapel Day!

It isn't often that I get to build a sandcastle inside (Ok, so I've never built one inside before). Not only was it inside, but it was inside an aquarium.

Let me explain.

I was asked to speak to the K thru 6th grade classes at Covenant Christian School... so it just seemed a natural to do something with sand.

My text?   Why Matthew 7:24 - 27:

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

I set up two aquariums, one with a rock in it, the other with an elaborate "foundation" of sand. Both featured identical wooden houses on each.

When it was time for the "storms" of life to hit, I produced two gallons of water and inundated first the house on the rock. (Though it was thoroughly drenched, it held up beautifully.) Then, another 2 gallons were readied, and with the kids screaming, "Storm's Coming"! (and with some calling, "don't wreck the sandcastle!") I hit it full force with my "flood".

Needless to say, the sandy foundation didn't fare too well. But that's the point, right?    :)
