Mama's Kitchen

Well, let me tell you…. The Z88.3 “Mama’s Kitchen” brought out a huge number of onlookers.

Ron and Wally waiting for Mama's next batch of good cooking!

The sculpture seemed to connect both with the young crowd (“look at the cat, Mommy!”) to the “generation older than me” who recognized the old stove right off the bat. It was this latter group which supplied additional info on putting certain details “here and there”. For example, the small cut-outs on top of each burner. Wally and I would listen patiently while grandmas and others would carefully describe how they were shaped and then, we’d try to make the appropriate markings.

The entire sculpture weighed in around 2 tons and with the chimney pipe, stood around 4 feet high. To give it that “home-grown” feel, I added a cat in front of a pile of firewood. Lots of kids got a kick out of finding the “Mouse Motel” sign over the little mouse hole near the mouse trap. Total building time:  22 man-hours.

Of all of the sculptures, this one was left untouched for 2 days and nights. Which is really nice, especially when many people came back to enjoy it again and again.

Built in honor of Lisa William’s mom up in Louisiana, (made famous from the Tuesday morning radio show game known as “Mama’s Kitchen”) Wally and I hope she gets a real kick out of us Florida folk and their quirky sand humor. So, Mama, you think you could rustle up a couple of sandwiches for us?  Ha ha!
