Becoming A Christian

The Bible tells us that "God so loved the world" that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ. (John 3:16) To understand the importance of this verse, we must understand the all of mankind is separated from God because of our sinful state. We are all sinners and not one of us is righteous on our own. (Romans 3:23) God loves us so much, but because He is Just and Holy, there needed to be a payment for our sin in order for us to be restored into right relationship with Him. That payment was paid when Christ, His Son died on the Cross. He paid the price once and for all for the sin of all mankind. (Romans 5:6) But you and I need to receive His payment for ourselves personally. (John 1:12) We do this by faith in Christ. But what does it mean to have faith in Christ? It means we personally accept Him as our Savior and Lord of our lives. We give our lives over to Him, trusting in Him alone for our forgiveness. We receive the payment He has made for our sins. When we do this, a spiritual transformation takes place in our hearts. The Bible calls this being "born again". (John 3:3-7) We are born "of His Spirit". He forgives our past sins and opens the way for us to continually be forgiven as we confess our sins to Him every day. (1 John :1:9)

God wants you and I to know Him better everyday. The best way to do this is to read the Bible. It is God's love letter to you and me. The Gospel of John is one of the best places to start.

If you would like to receive Christ right now, and start experiencing the exciting and wonderful plan He has for your life, just pray as this simple prayer just as I did:

"God, I know that I am a sinner and I believe that only You can save me. I receive Your Son, Jesus as my personal Savior and Lord, and receive the payment He made for my sin. Help me to trust You with every area of my life and experience Your love everyday. I believe that You will because You said "Whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21) and I call on You now. In Jesus Name...Amen."

If you have just prayed this prayer, you should quickly find another Christian and tell them. If you're like me you'll likely feel great! But remember, don't base everything on your feelings. Some days we feel as far away from God as we did before. But He is still there. Jesus said He would never leave us or forsake us! (Hebrews 13:5) In those times, it is best to read His Word, the Bible, and find a Christian friend to talk to.
If you have just prayed this prayer for the first time, or if you have some questions that I might be able to answer, send me some e-mail and let me know!

God bless you and keep you,
