The 21st Annual Don Cesar Dolphins to Dragons Sandcastle competition was held on September 9th, 2000. Sponsored by the American Red Cross of Tampa, there were about 15 contestants of all skill levels.

Ty and I hit the beach at 6:40 am (Who says that all sandcastlers are night-dwellers?) and started in on our castle. We were greeted by two network television crews (ABC and FOX), two newspaper reporters (The Tampa Tribune and one from the University of Florida) and hundreds of onlookers.
The caption under the article reads:
"Ron Masters jumps back from building "September Sky" when the real thing -- lightning -- startles him during the 21st annual Dolphins to Dragons Sand Castle Creations. The competition was held on the beach behind the Don CeSar Beach Resort and Spa in St. Pete Beach on Saturday. Although a couple of creations remained unfinished by the time the rain came, most were completed, a resort spokeswoman said."

We packed and carved sand from 7 am till the judging at 3 pm. What a lot of work! But, boy was it fun.

To look at all some of the pictures that I took, use the navigation buttons at the left or bottom of this page (labeled Don Cesar-1) to start off and go thru all the photos.

Though our creation, "September Sky" didn't win any awards, I did end up with a T-Shirt. (Now, isn't that nifty?)

My brother-in-law, Ty on the left and me taking a break from our creation, September Sky.
